photo of surf fishing at Anastasia State ParkThis outstanding Florida State Park is located on the Atlantic Ocean in St. Augustine Beach. All the campsites are heavily shaded with abundant privacy. The Park has four miles of glistening beaches, a saltwater lagoon and is located near historic St. Augustine and convenient to shopping.

photo of beach lifeguard at Anastasia State Park The Park has a small outfitter that rents canoes, kayaks, sailboats and sailboards for use in the saltwater lagoon. Lessons are available. The Park has a short hiking trail, but the beach is the best place for a scenic walk. Public beach access is at the South end of the park. You can walk North along the beach for over 3 miles. After a mile or so you'll rarely encounter any other people.

The Park has a snack bar and a small store that sells ice, bait and sundries. There are plenty of shopping plazas a short distance from the park. Bicycles come in handy and all the park roads are paved. The campsites vary widely in size, so check the site length when making reservations.

Nearby attractions include the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, Matanzas Inlet, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, and of course, historic St. Augustine.

Our visits to this Park were in July and December 2005, and July and December, 2006, July and December, July and December 2008 and July 2009.
